SOTA VK1 to Germany and Hungary – 29 November 2013

Second attempt at working EU activators

Equipment
Radio: Yaesu FT-857D output set at 50 watts
Antenna: 20/40m Link dipole
Squid Pole: 10 metre
Battery: LiFePO4 4S 4.2Ah

A successful activation this evening from Mt Taylor VK1/AC-037 856 metres ASL, on 20m 14.310 to 14.330 MHz USB.  I worked Klaus DF2GN/P summit to summit on DM/BW-228 Hummelsberg in the Bathe Wuerttemberg region with a 5-7 report each way.  Hummelsberg is a 10 point summit at 1002 meters ASL.   🙂

Also worked SOTA chasers Thomas DL1DVE and Michael DJ5AV.   From Hungary I worked Viktor HA5LV twice, second time with a BIG signal 5-9.

Local SOTA activator: A S2S with fellow activator Andrew VK1DA positioned on Mt Stromlo VK1/AC-043.

VK SOTA chasers taking the opportunity to log Mt Taylor on 20m were:  Matt VK1MA, Nev VK5WG, John VK6NU, Tony VK3CAT, Ian VK5CZ, Matt VK2DAG, VK5CZ Ian second time on 5 watts, Paul VK5PAS, Tom VK5EE, Gerard VK2IO, Ed VK2JI and Mike VK6MB.

Changed to 40m and worked Tom VK5EE, Paul VK5PAS, Bernard VK3AMB, Anthony VK3YSA/P near Geelong, Peter VK3PF and Peter VK3FPSR mobile.

I plan to try for EU chasers on Tuesday 3 December (07:30 UTC) from Mt Majura VK1/AC-035.  If successful the summit will be a new unique summit for the EU chaser group. Weather forecast for Tuesday is sunny with a high of 33 degrees C.
