NSW South Coast to North America and 3 easy coastal summits

Saturday 15 March 2014

Mogood Trig VK2/SC-049 385 metres ASL, Clyde State Forest

I’m spending 2 days, Saturday and Sunday at Broulee on the New South Wales south coast, 20 km south of Batemans Bay.  The weather forecast is for warm weather 30 degrees Celsius and light winds.

Today I plan to activate three summits Mogood Trig, Boyne Trig and Durras Mountain near Pebbly Beach.  Previous activations are by Ian VK1DI.

The route from Broulee to Mogood Trig.   A 20 minute drive to Nelligen along the Princes Highway and Kings Highway.  At Nelligen turn right onto ‘The River Road’ for a 25 km drive along River Road, Drurys Road and Clyde Ridge Road.  All roads are suitable for 2WD vehicles.

Started the activation at 23:00 operating on 10m 28.510 MHz.  First contact and a huge surprise was an excellent summit to summit contact with Andrew VK1DA on Mt Ginini.  Very pleased with the S2S, I  continued to call on 10m qualifying the summit with 6 North American chasers on 28.510 MHz. 🙂

Post note update 6 May 2014:  Mogood Trig is outside of the Bimberamala National Park and doesn’t qualify for the WWFF or VKFF awards.  In this case the best option is to return to Clyde Ridge Road and where safe to do so set up a station on the side of the road.  Check your map for the Bimberamala National Park boundary crossing on Clyde Ridge Road.
