Hamilton Hill VK2/RI-033 480 metres ASL, Jindera Gap NSW
Tuesday 23 December 2014, I’m on the return trip to Canberra. Temperature is 35 degrees it’s hot! Hamilton Hill is 7 km north-west of Lavington in the regional area known as Albury. How do you get there?
From Lavington take Urana Road to Jindera Gap. At Jindera Gap turn left into Jelbart Road, once on Jelbart Road take the first dirt road immediately on your left. There is ample space to park the car. Before you leave the car apply insect repellant, flies are prevalent. 😉
Previous activator only one, Mark VK3ASC 11 May 2014.
The walk starts from Jelbart Road, ascent is 168 metres over 1.8 km duration 30 minutes. The trail follows a series of ridge lines to the summit. To help chasers follow my progress I have enabled APSR droid on the phone using VK1NAM-5.
Public access trail
Very hot day at 35 degrees, flies everywhere, no snakes and storms were building to my south-west. I didn’t have time for a one hour activation, I posted a spot using SOTA Goat for 40m only.
Started the activation at 0410 UTC (15:10 local) which lasted for 14 minutes to close at 0424 UTC. The chaser group was quick off the mark, perhaps there is added value in using APRS? 11 chasers in order; Col VK3LED, Andrew VK3BQ/2 portable in Jindabyne, Peter VK3FPSR, Cliff VK2CCJ, Nev VK5WG, Paul VK2KTT, Al VK3AN, Ron VK3AFW, Tom VK5EE, Tony VK3CAT/M somewhere in Melbourne and Gerard VK2IO/M in Sydney.
Thanks chaser for your help in keeping the QSOs short. Another summit added to the SOTA Completed Log for a total of 82 summits activated and chased. 🙂
I will be back to Hamilton Hill in 2015 on the next trip to Melbourne.
