VK1 SOTA Mountain Goat Presentation

Tuesday 27 October 2015.  At a regular gathering of VK1 SOTA enthusiast, Andrew VK1DA and Adan VK1FJAW on behalf of the VK1 SOTA Group in the presence of Andrew VK1MBE, Al VK1RX, Ian VK1DI, Grant VK4JAZ, Tony VK1VIC and Matt VK1MA, presented to me the inaugural VK1 Mountain Goat Certificate #1 and unique 3D model of Mt Gingera VK1/AC-002, complete with an enthusiastic VK1 mountain goat!  😉

The significance of the 3D model is Mt Gingera summit at 1855 metres ASL, is the place where I achieved 1000 activator points on Saturday 26 September 2015 in the company of Al VK1RX.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the VK1 SOTA Group, they’re a great bunch of guys!   🙂

After the formalities of the presentation we got stuck into schnitzel, roast beef, pizzas and of course great Australian beers.

  1. Hi Andrew
Congratulations on your status as a ‘Mountain Goat’. It sure does represent a lot of hard work and is an achievement which will stay with you for the rest of your life. The trophy looks good as well!

  2. Great to see the trophy and certificate mentioned. Adan and I had some fun cooking it up. The people in the office thought we were mad before, now they know! Anyway, well deserved and glad to see you make the 1k.

    • Thanks Roald, I was chatting to Ian VK1DI last evening, I recall thinking in Feb 2013 with so many one point VK1 summits, it will take 4 years to make Mountain Goat. I am thankful to the folk in VK2 who helped with the survey of NSW (VK2), which proved to be a gold field of SOTA peaks particularly in the Southern Tablelands, Snowy Mountains and South Coast regions. I trust your radio shack will be up and running soon 😉

  3. Congratulation Andrew, great reward for all your efforts. Liked the write up about you in the November issue of AR.

    Regards,

    Garry

    • Thanks Garry. Allen requested a photo, I wasn’t sure what the article may cover. Interesting to read the different style of activations by Rik VK3EQ who also achieved SOTA Mountain Goat in September.
