Hoher Krippenstein OE/OO-012 2108 metres ASL Upper Austria
Sunday 29 May 2016. Two Austrian SOTA peaks in two days and without an amateur radio transceiver. Today we’re out with my wife’s cousin for a visit to Hallstatt village at the base of Krippenstien and Dachstein mountains.
Krippenstein mountain is registered as a SOTA peak in the Oberosterreich region of Upper Austria. I am reliably informed this peak is excellent for VHF Dx comms to other parts of Europe, I bet it is and I am now sorry I didn’t pack the Yaesu 2m HT.

View of Krippenstein from the township of Hallstatt in the Oberosterreich Region (Upper Austria Region)

Krippenstein 2 cable car station. The cable car journey includes two stations starting at a base of 600 metres ASL and terminating at the summit 2108 metres ASL (6916 ft).

Five Fingers nerve test with a 500 metre vertical drop. My wife refused to take the nerve test. I on the other hand enjoyed the view from each of the five fingers platforms.

View from the Five Finger platform down to the village of Hallstatt and Hallstatter See (lake). The summit rises 1600 metres (4921 ft) above Hallstatter See.
Next time I travel to Europe, I’m taking the dual band HT.

No doubt about it, they have the scenery! Thanks for the views.
