2m dipole

Simple 2m dipole for SOTA which mounts over a fiberglass squid pole.

Construction project 2m/70cm duplexer

Homebrew 2m/70cm duplexer for 23 and 13cm SOTA activations. Why buy one when you can make your own? All components are mounted on a single sided copper clad board. I will use my FT-817 at 1 watt to drive the 23 and 13cm transverters via the duplexer. The duplexer will permit instant band chages. SG-Lab…

SOTA – Lightweight Portable 2m – 70cm Dipole Antenna update

At this link I constructed a 2m lightweight telescopic dipole where the toroid choke is a T37-0 (Tan 0 mix, 50 to 350 Mhz). This version is using a T37-17 (Blue/Yellow 17 mix, 20 to 200 MHz). In addition to the change of balun core, I made the center insulator 5 mm (~1/4 inch) longer…

SOTA – Lightweight Portable 2m – 70cm Dipole Antenna #2

2m 146 MHz dipole antenna construction project At SOTA – Lightweight Portable 2m – 70cm Dipole Antenna I described the construction of a compact lightweight dipole antenna using commonly available parts, a perfect addition to the emergency 2m Go-box. In that article I used a small section of kitchen cutting board as the mounting block…

2m DX from Bimberi Peak grid QF44JI

As a part of the SOTA activation of Bimberi Peak VK1/AC-001, 1913 metres ASL, highest peak in the ACT, Al VK1RX and I planned a 30 minute session for the 2m DX aircraft enhancement window starting at 2100 UTC.   We had so much fun 30 minutes quickly turned into one hour. On our arrival at…

2m Dipole Modification for VHF DX contacts – 7 January 2014

This is an update to the 2m dipole post from 3 January 2014, a simple 2m dipole for SOTA VHF contacts. You may recall I used 1.6 mm enamelled copper wire for the 2m dipole mounted on the squid pole at 5 metres.  I tested the antenna during the Mt Rob Roy activation where the…

SOTA Activation Mt Rob Roy – 5 January 2014

Mt Rob Roy VK1/AC-031 1099 metres ASL Canberra Nature Reserve, grid QF44NM Today I decided to activate Mt Rob Roy, test out the 2m dipole by working VHF DX stations and update this blog with the Mt Rob Roy navigation details.  I last activated this summit in February 2013 while the last activation was in…

Bimberi Peak expedition – 2 metre dipole

Simple 2 metre dipole* for a 7m squid pole This antenna comes to you from the home-brew shack of VK1NAM.  No it doesn’t have a brand name, doesn’t claim to be a miracle device and doesn’t come with a 1 year warranty or a 2 year extended warranty. You will be pleased to know it…
